Record an audio note

Start an audio note#

Choose the audio-only capture mode when you do not need video. Select a microphone, then start the recording.

System audio can also be available on supported macOS versions. Check the source controls before you begin.

Edit the note#

The result opens with an audio timeline. Trim the beginning and end, split unwanted parts, and adjust the track level.

You can generate a transcript or captions from the recording. Apple and Whisper transcription stay local on your Mac.

Export audio#

Open Export and choose Audio. Use AAC for an .m4a file or MP3 for an .mp3 file.
